Library synopsis: [It] Nel 1937 il professore Marcello Clerici sposa Giulia. Mentre la donna è spensierata, allegra, senza problemi, lui – nonostante i buoni successi come docente di filosofia – è tormentato da un ricordo: a tredici anni ha ucciso Lino Seminara, un autista che ha tentato di avere con lui dei rapporti sessuali. Da allora Marcello ha abbandonato ogni pratica religiosa e si è legato strettamente con l’OVRA, la polizia segreta fascista. Per volontà dei suoi dirigenti di partito, deve compiere il viaggio di nozze a Parigi per introdursi nell’ambiente del professore Quadri, un docente universitario antifascista, in modo da poterer consentire al camerata Manganiello di predisporne l’assassinio. Marcello e Giulia riescono ad entrare nelle grazie di Quadri e della moglie Anna, una donna assai bella e bisessuale che si attacca morbosamente a Giulia pur non rifiutando la corte dello stesso Marcello. Una breve vacanza in Savoia dei coniugi Quadri permette a Manganiello di predisporre un agguato nel quale però cade non solo il professore ma anche la moglie Anna, giunta all’appuntamento in macchina insieme a lui. Marcello assiste quasi inebetito al brutale assassinio dei due coniugi. Nel 1943, quando Roma esulta per la caduta del fascismo, Marcello incontra casualmente Lino Seminara, che in effetti non era morto. Sconvolto dall’incontro, Marcello scoppia in una reazione isterica e, denunciando alla folla l’abietto individuo, gli attribuisce tutte le colpe della propria vita. Segnalazioni Cinematografiche
