Toni wants to become an opera-singer. Her mother was once simple chanteuse. Toni marries the brutal industrialist Liesegang. An Italian doctor falls in love with Toni. He want's to see Liesegang dead.
Whitechapel Synopsis
Fred Hopkins, a jeweler's assistant, replaces the pearl necklace Lord Reading bought as a wedding present with a worthless imitation. A hunt begins, which the flower seller Rahel and the jumping jack dealer David are able to end by finding the jewelry. Hopkins, who is convicted, then commits suicide for fear of being punished with poison.
"Der Demütige und die Tänzerin" holds a slight edge in general audience appreciation, but "Whitechapel" offers its own unique cult appeal.
