District Attorney Synopsis
Jan Winkler asks the famous professor Brunicki for a loan of one thousand zlotys. The professor hands him a check, demanding in return he bring the young girls he needs for his scientific research. Winkler becomes the owner of a nightclub and fulfills his promise... He meets a prosecutor, Alicja Horn, and falls in love with her. After some time, however, Winkler begins to become interested in her pupil, Julka. He is arrested on suspicion of murder. However, he does not want to burden the professor and remains silent, so Alicja demands the death penalty for him. From Julka's letter she learns that Winkler has been cheating on her. At the last minute, Brunicki appears in the courtroom and gives testimony, which results in Winkler's acquittal. But Alice's life and feelings are devastated.
A Sister to Salome Synopsis
When famous opera singer Elinore Duane undergoes an operation on her throat, she has a series of ether-induced visions. In one, she is transported to ancient Rome where she appears as a much-admired woman in love with Paul, a young heretic, and at odds with Lutor, the high priest. To save her love, she poisons Lutor with her ring. After several other visions which involve variations on this love triangle, Elinore awakens to discover that Lutor is actually her doctor, Sascha Jaccard, and that Paul is the son of a friend who has come to visit the recovering prima donna.
"District Attorney" holds a slight edge in general audience appreciation, but "A Sister to Salome" offers its own unique cult appeal.
