This beautiful Technicolor short features the songs of the great American popular composer Stephen Collins Foster. Lovely antebellum costumes and atmosphere foreshadow the MGM production values for Gone with the Wind (1939). Based on Foster's memoirs.
Down the Mississippi Synopsis
The simple story is about two siblings, little brother Bud and big sister Susie. After they've been reading "Huckleberry Finn" they dream of adventures on the Mississippi River.
"Memories and Melodies" holds a slight edge in general audience appreciation, but "Down the Mississippi" offers its own unique cult appeal.
