Riding with Death Synopsis
Dynamite Steve Dorsey of the Texas Rangers finds his pal Val Nelson murdered by a member of Sheriff Pat Garrity's gang and vows vengeance. At the ranch of Col. Lee Calhoun, Steve relates the news to Anita, his sweetheart. Garrity, who covets Anita and has plotted to steal the colonel's payment of the mortgage on his ranch, arrives to foreclose but finds Steve there. Steve is captured by Garrity's men and jailed, but he manages to notify the Rangers, and Captain Hughes arrives at the town just in time to rout Garrity's gunmen and prevent Steve's death. Steve obtains evidence on which to convict the sheriff of Val's murder, and following the showdown Anita admits her love for Steve.
A Knight of the Range Synopsis
Unaware of the weakness of Bob Graham's character, Bess Dawson decides to marry him instead of the other cowboy who loves her, Cheyenne Harry. Before the wedding, however, some crooks induce Bob to take part in a hold-up. Then when Harry hears that a posse has been dispatched to catch Bob, he rides out to him and helps him escape. Determined to spare Bess from marrying a convicted criminal, Harry then lets the posse think that he himself, and not Bob, was involved in the robbery. Bess is horrified that Bob has let Harry take the blame and finally realizes that she picked the wrong cowboy. As a result, after Bob is killed in a gunfight and Harry has been cleared of the robbery charge, she quickly accepts his marriage proposal.
"Riding with Death" holds a slight edge in general audience appreciation, but "A Knight of the Range" offers its own unique cult appeal.
