The Alibi Synopsis
Paris, 1937. Winckler, a telepathist entertaining in a Paris night club, kills his enemy Gordon. He pays another artist, Helene, so that she tells the police they've spent the night together, which doesn't fool Callas, the police officer who investigates the murder. He hires one of his fellow officers in order to seduce Helene.
Whitechapel Synopsis
Fred Hopkins, a jeweler's assistant, replaces the pearl necklace Lord Reading bought as a wedding present with a worthless imitation. A hunt begins, which the flower seller Rahel and the jumping jack dealer David are able to end by finding the jewelry. Hopkins, who is convicted, then commits suicide for fear of being punished with poison.
"The Alibi" holds a slight edge in general audience appreciation, but "Whitechapel" offers its own unique cult appeal.
