First of several filmed versions of a popular period operetta, in which an early 18th century noblewoman in Poland falls in love with a revolutionary student activist.
Songs of England Synopsis
An innkeeper's daughter loves a shepherd boy and will not listen to her father's plea that she marry a rich young Londoner. The Londoner pleads with the girl, but she will not hear him. He goes back to London and the girl is happy with her shepherd.
"The Beggar Student" holds a slight edge in general audience appreciation, but "Songs of England" offers its own unique cult appeal.
