First of several filmed versions of a popular period operetta, in which an early 18th century noblewoman in Poland falls in love with a revolutionary student activist.
Songs of Scotland Synopsis
A Scots lass parts regretfully from her lad as he goes to make his mark in the world. The lad meets an old man who warns him against leaving his beloved. He returns to her and they are married. Then the old man, who loves the girl's mother, asks that she be his wife. Thereafter another marriage is arranged.
"The Beggar Student" holds a slight edge in general audience appreciation, but "Songs of Scotland" offers its own unique cult appeal.
