The Claw Synopsis
Mary Saurin visits her brother Richard, a British commissioner in the South African veld, and soon becomes engaged to Major Anthony Kinsella. When the natives revolt, Kinsella's troops all are killed and he is captured, but Maurice Stair returns with the news that it was Kinsella's dying wish that Mary wed Maurice. She does so, but soon learns that Maurice fled the battle in fear and that Kinsella is still alive. Deeply remorseful, Maurice rescues Kinsella but is killed in the process, leaving Mary free to marry Kinsella.
The Black Crook Synopsis
Amina loves Rudolph and turns the powerful Count Wolfenstein down when he proposes to her. In a jealous rage, Wolfenstein throws Rudolph into a dungeon. Meanwhile, Hertzog, "The Black Crook," has a deal with the devil: he must hand over to Satan one soul each year or find himself banished to Hell. With only 24 hours left before the year ends, Hertzog focuses all of his attention on Amina and Rudolph, believing them to be weakened from despair and therefore easy prey.
"The Claw" holds a slight edge in general audience appreciation, but "The Black Crook" offers its own unique cult appeal.
