The Virtuous Model Synopsis
Denise Fleury supports her invalid mother in the Montmartre slums by making artificial flowers in a factory. When she loses her job, Denise is convinced by her friend Suzanne to join her working in a cabaret. Paul Brehant, a famous sculptor, visits the cabaret to forget his unfaithful sweetheart, Countess Olga Vosloff. After Paul rescues Denise from a patron who tries to kiss her, he offers her a job as his model for a statue of Venus. Denise accepts Paul's offer after her mother dies, but she refuses to pose nude. Because Paul's belief in love is reawakened by Denise's virtue, he proposes to her and they marry. During their honeymoon in the country, Olga visits and reprimands Denise for keeping Paul from his art. Back in Paris, when Denise sees Paul's renewed interest in Olga, she goes to his friend, Edward Dorin. Stricken by jealousy, Paul follows. Convinced of Denise's fidelity and Edward's loyalty, Paul begs forgiveness on his knees.
The Reign of Terror Synopsis
The scene takes place in Paris in March 1793 during the Reign of Terror. The Knight of Maison-Rouge, posing as Citizen Morand, is organizing the escape of Queen Marie-Antoinette. He is assisted in his undertaking by Dixmer, a master tanner who passes himself off as an ardent revolutionary and his wife Geneviève, who also happens to be the Knight's sister. While on mission with her brother, she is saved from arrest thanks to the intervention of Lieutenant Maurice Lindey. Geneviève, who is married without love to Dixmer, falls for the young man, who requites her love. A tunnel is dug between a house rented by Dixmer and the Tower of the Temple but the various attempts to rescue the queen attempts fail. Marie-Antoinette risks the guillotine. Lindey finds himself involved in the plot.
"The Reign of Terror" is currently leading in ratings, making it a stronger choice for newcomers to the genre.
