Biography
Born in 1889, Alexander E. Beyfuss slipped behind the camera just as the silent era was finding its voice. Between 1914 and 1915 he steered two early landmarks—Salomy Jane, a California-gold-rush romance, followed swiftly by the operatic Mignon—cementing a reputation for lavish visuals and brisk storytelling. Off-set, he shared his life with actress Wilhemina Speer-Hudson. His own final curtain fell in Manhattan on 8 January 1925, leaving behind a pair of century-old films that still flicker with his restless energy.
