Biography
Ashley Miller came into the world on 11 August 1867 amid the river-crowded bustle of Cincinnati, Ohio. Behind the camera and atop the writer’s desk, Miller shaped early American cinema, steering audiences through The Quest of Life in 1916 and, the following year, dissecting scruples and scandal in both The Moral Code and Infidelity. Off-screen, marriage bound him to actress Ethel Browning. His own story closed its final reel on 19 November 1949 in New York City, the flickering lights of Broadway dimming in tribute.
