Biography
St. Louis, Missouri, claimed Carlton S. King on 15 December 1881, and from that Midwestern cradle he marched toward footlights and film sets, trading river-city winters for the flicker of kerosene lamps on early soundstages. In front of the camera he lent quiet gravity to The Way Back (1915), then pivoted behind it to coax tender melancholy from Just a Song at Twilight (1916) and to bottle summer storms in Tempest and Sunshine (1916). Off set he traded lines and lifelong vows with Nettie Nash, forging a partnership no reel could outshine. Forty-nine summers later, on 6 July 1932, the California sun found him for the last time in Glendale, closing the curtain on a life spent spinning stories into silver light.
