Biography

Charles Calvert spent the silent era calling the shots—and occasionally stepping in front of them. Between 1920 and 1923 he steered three now-cult British features: the society drama The Edge of Youth, the rough-and-tumble romance The Way of a Man, and the gaslit suspense of The Lights of London. When the cameras stopped for good, he remained in the city that had been his set and stage, dying in London in 1957.
