Biography
Edgar Lewis first trod the boards as a stage actor, but the flicker of the silver screen lured him west in 1911. Within two years he had traded greasepaint for a megaphone, launching a directorial sprint that would deliver more than sixty action-charged westerns and cliff-hangers before the calendar flipped to 1930. When talkies arrived, Lewis quietly stepped out of the director’s chair and back in front of the camera, content to steal scenes in uncredited cameos and bit parts. His last ride came in 1935’s Riding Wild; after the final reel, he hung up his spurs. Three years later, in 1938, he drew his last breath in Los Angeles.
