Biography
Philadelphia, 1865: the year Edwin Middleton first drew breath, the same city that would later echo his name across nickelodeon marquees. By 1915 he had traded footlights for camera cranks, coaxing horses and stuntmen through the dust of Wildfire and igniting the frame-by-frame blaze of The Flaming Sword. Seven years on, he saddled up again for Pals of the West, guiding silent cowboys through canyons of celluloid. Off-set, the title “Mrs. Middleton” belonged to the woman who shared his life, if not his spotlight. The final curtain fell in Los Angeles on 17 June 1929, sunset erasing the last flicker of a man who had once made flames roar without a single spoken word.
