Biography
A native of Porto, Portugal, 1873, Francisco Santos traded the Atlantic lapping at his hometown docks for the flicker of celluloid dreams. Within twelve breathless months he marshalled resources, coaxing A Mulher do Chiqueiro (1913) onto Portuguese screens, then followed it with twin 1914 triumphs—Amor de Perdição and O Crime dos Banhados—cementing his reputation as both producer and director willing to gamble on bold narratives. The gamble paid off in applause, but Santos kept moving; decades later his journey ended in Pelotas, Brazil, where he passed away in 1937, leaving behind the bright after-image of a pioneer who helped ignite Iberian cinema.
