Biography
George Foster Platt first opened his eyes on 27 July 1866 in the tobacco-scented river town of Petersburg, Virginia. Behind the camera he became the quiet architect of early American cinema, guiding the 1915 poetic short *Inspiration*, coaxing comedy from the misadventures of *The Five Faults of Flo* in 1916, and unveiling Helen Keller’s world in the 1919 feature *Deliverance*. Three decades after those flickering images hit the screen, his own final curtain fell on 16 November 1928 in sun-washed Monrovia, California.
