Biography
A New Hampshire native born on 21 March 1859, Henry W. Savage turned the quiet streets of Durham into his launching pad for a career that would light up Broadway and the silent screen. Between booming laughter with Excuse Me in 1915, shipwrecking audiences with Robinson Crusoe in 1916, and waltzing them through The Merry Widow in 1925, he proved himself a master showman of stage and celluloid alike. Offstage, he shared his life with Alice Louise Batcheler. He took his final curtain call on 29 November 1927 in Boston, Massachusetts, leaving behind a legacy still applauded.
