Biography
Rock Island, Illinois, greeted Hugh Reticker’s arrival on 19 November 1884, and from that Mississippi-river town he would go on to paint dreams across the screen. First as an art director, then calling the shots himself, he framed the baseball romp Right Off the Bat in 1915, saddled up for the horse-barracks adventure Sergeant Murphy in 1938, and steered the limbo-bound drama Between Two Worlds in 1944. His final curtain fell on 3 December 1969 in sun-washed Santa Barbara County, California, leaving behind a celluloid legacy stitched in light and shadow.
