Biography
Born among the cornfields of Aledo, Illinois on 8 June 1861, Lucius Henderson swapped the quiet prairie for the flicker of early movie lamps. Behind the camera he shaped stories such as the Civil-War romance *Under Southern Skies* (1915), the Parisian passion *Sapho* (1913), and the jungle thriller *The Huntress of Men* (1916); in front of it he occasionally stepped into the frame himself. Off-screen he shared his life with two wives—first Helene Studebaker, then Gretchen Violet Lyons. Henderson’s final curtain fell in New York City on 18 February 1947, closing a career forged in the infancy of American film.
