Biography
Turin, 10 February 1881: the city’s winter fog greeted the birth of Luigi Romano Borgnetto, a quiet boy who would grow up to orchestrate flickering dreams on celluloid. Behind the camera he became a swift storyteller, stirring audiences with the flour-dusted frenzy of *La farina del diavolo* (1920), then flexing mythic muscle in *La rivincita di Maciste* (1921) and sounding an early alarm for modernity in *Il segno dei tempi* (1921). Writer, director, Piedmontese to the core, Borgnetto eventually returned to the city’s streets, dying there on 25 December 1957, leaving the lights of his native Turin to shimmer on without him.
