Summary
In a narrative steeped in maritime lore and psychological tension, Joel Shore inherits the command of the whaling schooner 'Nathan Ross' following the enigmatic disappearance of his elder brother, Mark—a figure of almost mythical courage and prowess. Joel, now thrust into a leadership role he perhaps never sought, embarks on a perilous voyage with his newlywed wife, Priscilla, whose heart harbors a gnawing suspicion regarding her husband's fortitude. Her perception, colored by the heroic shadow of the lost Mark, casts a pall over their union, questioning Joel's very essence. As the schooner cuts through unforgiving seas, hunting leviathans, the true battle unfolds not against the colossal beasts of the deep, but within Joel himself, and within the fragile bond he shares with Priscilla. The ocean, a character in its own right, becomes a crucible, forcing a confrontation with legacy, perceived cowardice, and the raw, unvarnished truth of human spirit against the backdrop of an indifferent, majestic wilderness.
