Biography

A Sicilian sun rose on 24 August 1881 over Siracusa, and with it Achille Majeroni stepped onto the world’s stage. By the early 1930s he was already weaving his quiet magnetism into the operatic swirl of Casta diva (1935). Six years later he slipped into the tortured skin of Caravaggio for the 1941 biopic Caravaggio, il pittore maledetto, proving he could fuse fire and shadow in a single glance. International audiences finally discovered his wry, weather-beaten charm in Federico Fellini’s I Vitelloni (1953), where his seasoned presence anchored the drifting youth of a seaside town. Off-screen, two women captured his heart in turn: Ersilia Arrighi and, later, Lea Müller. The curtain fell on 12 October 1964 in Rome, but the echo of his performances still lingers, as timeless as the Sicilian coast that first shaped him.
