Born among the quiet Lincolnshire lanes on 22 July 1869, A.E. George left Castle Hill, Lincoln, to light up the early British screen. Silent audiences remember him as the commanding Henry VIII in 1911, the swashbuckling Brigadier Gerard four years later, and the steadfast Vicar of Wakefield in 1916.
