Biography
Alan Crolius first drew breath on 31 March 1889 amid the cornfields of Illinois. Within a few fast-moving years he had slipped onto the silent screen, scripting and starring in A Tudor Princess (1913), braving the crags of Meg o' the Mountains (1914), and, in 1915, turning The Magistrate’s Story into one of early cinema’s small, enduring legends. Fame was brief, the reels were silent, and when the final frame of his life flickered out in Pennsylvania during 1936, the projectors kept turning—still spinning the stories he left behind.
