Biography
"The curtain rose on Albert Tavernier's life on October 3, 1859, in Boston, Massachusetts, born to Joseph William Taverner Jr. and Mary Ann McCann Taverner. A pivotal scene change occurred in 1871 when his family relocated to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Albert inherited a flair for the dramatic from his father, a distinguished professor of Elocution and Shakespearean expert, who not only tutored individuals in the finer points of diction but was also a sought-after orator, frequently gracing stages with his captivating readings. It was in Canada that Albert himself first trod the boards, quickly ascending to become a theatrical impresario. His ambitious circuit encompassed three prominent venues: the Hibbard Opera House, the Guelph Royal Opera House, and the Jackson MI opera house. Supporting this extensive endeavor was his brother, Joseph Edmond Taverner, who served as the indispensable advance man, tirelessly traversing ahead of the troupe to distribute handbills and meticulously arrange accommodations. Amidst the vibrant world of Canadian theater, Albert encountered his first wife, the celebrated actress Ida Van Courtland. Their paths crossed during a production, sparking a union. Ida brought to their marriage a son from a previous union, whom Albert lovingly adopted; this boy would later rise to prominence as Sir Percy Algernon Taverner. Together, Albert and Ida welcomed a daughter, Ida Clara, into the world. However, after 17 years, their marital curtain fell, leading to a divorce. Following this, Albert relinquished the rigors of touring with his acting company. While his cinematic ventures were few, with approximately three films to his credit, Albert remained a familiar and respected presence on the New York City stage. It was during his time treading the boards in New York that he found love again, meeting his second wife, Helen Bell. His final act unfolded in Boston, Massachusetts. After the closing night of a play in which he was appearing, while walking home, Albert Tavernier suffered a heart attack, bringing his remarkable life to an unexpected close."
