Biography
Aldgate, 15 August 1869: the Victorian streets delivered Albert Ward into a city of fog and foot-lights. By the silent era he had swapped ledgers for lenses, scripting and steering three now-curio gems—The Phantom Picture and Queen of the Wicked (both 1916), followed by the racetrack yarn A Member of Tattersall’s (1919). The reels stopped turning long before he did; Ward’s final scene arrived on 9 December 1956 in a Wandsworth nursing-home, closing a London life that had spanned horse-drawn trams to television aerials.
