Biography
A veteran of the silent era, André Liabel moved as easily in front of the camera as he did behind it. In 1913 he helped launch the adventures of Zigomar – the Black Scourge, setting the tone for France’s early crime serials; a decade later he guided The Secret Spring through its mysterious twists, and by 1928 he was exploring colonial shadows in Dans l’ombre du harem. His final curtain fell on 27 January 1942 in Asnières-sur-Seine, but the flicker of the images he shaped keeps his pulse alive on screen.
