Biography
Long before the talkies roared, Andreas Van Horn was already haunting the flicker of early European screens. In 1914 he stalked the fog-choked moors as the sinister Stapleton in the silent classic Der Hund von Baskerville, then resurfaced three years later to embody Dorian Gray’s poisonous charm in Das Bildnis des Dorian Gray (1917), a film that dared to paint decadence in shades of candlelit celluloid. A decade later, Vienna’s ballrooms spun beneath his feet when he waltzed through Dancing Vienna (1927), capturing the city’s champagne-soaked gaiety just before the champagne went flat.
