Biography
Born in Kassa on 19 November 1861, when the town still belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary, Aranka Laczkó stepped onto the stage at a time when footlights were gas and audiences wore sabres. Between 1916 and 1918 she shimmered through three early Hungarian films—Fehér éjszakák’s nocturnal glow, A tanítónö’s classroom drama, and Ciklámen’s floral mystery—proving that silent screens could still echo her theatrical fire. Six decades later, on 19 July 1953, the curtain finally fell in Budapest, leaving the city’s coffee-house gossips with one last, lingering applause.
