Biography
Sixteen August 1880: a Provençal sun rose over Nîmes and greeted Armand Cortes for the first time. By 1917 he had slipped audiences a skeleton key to Baldpate’s shadowy corridors; three years later he was swinging through the African vine with Tarzan’s own vengeance; and, come 1926, he was dancing across the gilded sands of Palm Beach. The curtain finally fell on 19 November 1948, far from the Roman arenas of his birth, in a San Francisco dusk.
