Biography
Aarhus welcomed Arne Weel on 15 January 1891, and by the early 1940s he had become the man who steered Danish cinema’s darkest dramas: *En forbryder* (1941), *Naar bønder elsker* (1942), and the wartime milestone *Møllen* (1943). Between calls of “Action!” he collected four wives—Karen Marie Løwert, Lise Marlene Agnete Dorph, Liva Weel, and Else Louise Mantzius—each marriage a new scene in an eventful private epic. The curtain finally fell on 2 October 1975, but the reels he acted in and directed still spin, keeping the name Arne Weel alive across Denmark.
