Biography
Milford, Delaware, greeted Arthur Matthews on 18 September 1889, and before he had blown out twenty-five candles he was already facing movie cameras. Between 1915 and 1916 he slipped into three very different skins: the campus heart-throb in *The College Widow*, the cliff-hanging hero of *The Nation’s Peril*, and the comedic foil of *Ignorance*. War cut the rising career short; on 28 July 1918, somewhere amid the shell-torn French landscape, the cameras stopped forever.
