Biography
Aubrey Beattie first drew breath on 8 October 1865 amid the salt-laced winds of Nova Scotia. Within a few crowded months of 1917 he strode before the cameras three times—first as Hedda Gabler’s brittle world collapsed around her, then while The Greater Woman wrestled with conscience, and finally inside the taut courtroom drama of Mrs. Balfame. The curtain fell for the last time on 22 December 1944 in Brooklyn, New York, where the veteran performer took his leave at age seventy-nine.
