Biography
A midsummer child of 1846, Augusto Mastripietri first drew breath among the marble whispers of Florence. Stage-footed from youth, he matured into the silent-era patriarch audiences still recognize in the flickering poetry of *Christus* (1916), the shadowed corridors of *Malombra* (1917), and the biblical sweep of *After Six Days* (1920). When the curtain fell for the last time, he returned quietly to his native Tuscan stones on 8 July 1930, leaving the city that had watched him born to watch him depart.
