Biography
Newcastle, New South Wales, greeted the arrival of Aurelio Sidney on 17 April 1880. By his early thirties he had slipped in front of the camera, later stepping behind it as well, guiding performances as readily as he gave them. Three titles still carry his flickering ghost: Ultus, the Man from the Dead (1915), El león (1920), and the ominously titled Mátame, also released in 1920. Fate wrote a final scene that same year: on 15 May, in the coastal town of Sitges, Spain, the reel stopped turning forever.
