Biography
Born on Buffalo’s 1868 Independence Day, Ben Hendricks Sr. traded the lake-effect winters of upstate New York for the klieg-light glow of early Hollywood. Between 1915 and 1929 he slipped into characters as varied as the green graduate of *Just Out of College*, the biblical battle-scarred soldier of *The Conquest of Canaan*, and the man haunted by *Black Waters*. Off-screen he shared his life with actress Isabelle F. Conway. Three decades after leaving Buffalo, he drew his final breath in Hollywood on 30 April 1930, leaving behind a silent-film legacy that still flickers.
