Born 18 November 1886 on the Illinois prairie, Bernadine Zuber stepped from small-town quiet into the flicker of early Hollywood. Between 1914 and 1919 she lent her wit and presence to three now-classic silents—Brewster’s Millions, Her Country First, and Jane Goes A' Wooing—each frame preserving the spark that once lit nickelodeon screens. Half a century later, on 5 September 1968, the final curtain fell in Glendale, California, closing a life that had helped launch American cinema’s golden dream.
