Biography
Born in the frost-bitten November of 1893, Beverly Bayne first opened her eyes in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and by her early twenties she had stepped straight into the flickering dawn of American cinema. Audiences remember her as the luminous Juliet opposite Francis X. Bushman in the 1916 screen version of Romeo and Juliet, as the society beauty in The Age of Innocence (1924), and as the desperate heroine of The Girl at the Curtain (1914). Off-camera, she shared her life with two husbands—Charles Thomas Hvass Sr. and, later, her famous leading man Bushman. After eighty-eight eventful years, most spent under the glare of klieg lights or the desert sun, she drew her final breath in Scottsdale, Arizona, on 18 August 1982.
