Biography
Rome, 8 May 1886: a city of crumbling marble and new flickering light welcomes Bice Valerian. By 1913 she is stepping before the primitive camera for The Mystery of St. Martin’s Bridge, a shadow-play that sends her face across continents. A year later she braves the Danube’s current in Il barcaiolo del Danubio and trades the riverbanks for the stage boards of L’istrione, proving her range before the Great War snatches the reels away. Off-screen she claims Roberto Roberti as husband, their names twin flames in the industry’s infancy. The curtain finally falls in 1969 among the Irpinian hills of Torella Dei Lombardi, Avellino, where the Apennines keep the echo of her silent gaze.
