Biography
New Jersey greeted Brooks McCloskey on 10 May 1907, and by the age of five he was already facing silent-film cameras. Between 1912 and 1915 he slipped through drawing-room comedies and melodramas—stealing scenes in *The Social Secretary*, playing the idealized young hero of *The Doctor’s Romance*, and galloping across the polo fields of *The Sporting Duchess*. When the last reel faded, so did his public story. He lived quietly in the same state that had first claimed him, stepping away from the spotlight until his final bow in Pleasantville on 3 July 1988.
