Biography
On a November day in 1854, Naples—still under the flag of the Two Sicilies—welcomed Camillo De Riso, a boy who would grow into one of early Italian cinema’s busiest talents. Between 1915 and 1917 he steered and starred in three now-legendary silents: the patriotic rallying-cry *Armiamoci e... partite!*, the court intrigue of *La principessa*, and the sultry world of *Nanà*. Fifty miles short of his seventieth birthday, De Riso’s final curtain fell in Rome on 2 April 1924.
