Biography
Louisville, Kentucky, welcomed Carey Lee into the world one cold January day in 1884, and by her late twenties she had stepped before the camera, shaping stories in the fledgling days of American film. Audiences first noticed her in the 1912 adaptation of Richard III, then followed her from the circus romance For Love of a Man (1913) to the biblical spectacle Samson (1915). Between shoots she sharpened her pen, earning credit as a writer as well as an actress. Off-screen, she shared her life with Charles Day, the man who became her husband. Her own final scene closed on 17 July 1930 in Brooklyn, New York, closing the curtain on a career forged in the glow of early Hollywood.
