Biography
On a summer Thursday in 1870—21 August to be exact—Stockholm gained a future face-maker when Carl Apolloff first opened his eyes in the capital’s cobble-stoned heart. Over the next nine-plus decades he lent those features to the fledgling Nordic camera, slipping from crystal-ball swami in 1915’s *Madame de Thebes* to silver-screen everyman in *Thomas Graals bästa barn* (1918) and, two decades later, marching into *Mot nya tider* (1939) as living proof that Swedish cinema’s silent pioneers could still speak volumes once the talkies arrived. The curtain finally fell on 15 October 1967, back where the story began—Stockholm, Stockholms län—closing the circle on a life spent projecting dreams from the same streets that once echoed with his first cries.
