Biography
Born under the gaslight of St. Louis on December 15, 1881, Carlton S. King traded the Mississippi river breeze for the flicker of silver nitrate, carving a silent-era niche as both the man in front of the lens and the mind behind it. Between 1915 and 1916 he steered three one-reel storms—*The Way Back*, *Just a Song at Twilight*, and *Tempest and Sunshine*—onto screens still thirsty for moving shadows. Off-set, he claimed Nettie Nash as his lifelong scene partner. The final curtain fell on July 6, 1932, in Glendale, California, where the Pacific sunset closed his personal reel at fifty.
