Biography
A boy christened Celestino Petray entered the world in 1870, long before close-ups and title cards existed. By 1915 he had traded the open Argentine ranges for the flickering light of a film set, galloping across the screen in Nobleza gaucha and helping to forge the nation’s earliest cowboy-on-celluloid myth. Two years later he slipped into the melodrama of Flor de durazno, proving that even in the silent era a face could speak volumes. Fate closed his final scene in 1926, leaving behind only a handful of frames and a lasting whisper in cinema’s infancy.
