Biography
Born in Dunedin on 13 April 1893, Charles Bennett first trod the boards of New Zealand before sailing into silent-era Hollywood. Between 1915’s “The Little Slavey” and 1934’s “Treasure Island,” he shaped stories both in front of and behind the camera, guiding 1924’s epic “America” with the same steady hand that had once delivered lines. Off-set, he shared life with wife Dorothy Eileen Brown until the final curtain fell on 15 February 1943 in Hollywood, California.
