Biography

Born in Philadelphia in 1862, Charles Brandt first captivated audiences as a well-known stage performer throughout the 1880s. This cheerful, white-haired gentleman transitioned to the burgeoning world of cinema in 1911, becoming a prolific presence for the Lubin Film Company. Over the next six years, he graced the screen in more than 60 productions, frequently embodying the gravitas of professionals or the warmth of fathers in both dramas and comedies. His cinematic debut arrived with 'His Chorus Girl Wife' in 1911, directed by Harry Solter and co-starring Florence Lawrence. However, his legacy might be most vividly recalled for his portrayal of Sam Graham in Barry O'Neil's 1914 feature, 'The Fortune Hunter,' a film that saw him alongside William Elliott and Ethel Clayton. His cinematic journey continued with a move to the World Film Company in 1917, followed by a stint with the Betzwood Film Co. in 1918. Brandt concluded his screen career with 'The Master Mind' in 1920, directed by Kenneth S. Webb and featuring Lionel Barrymore for the First National Film Company. He passed away in his native Philadelphia in 1924, at the age of 62.
