Biography
September 21, 1869, St. Albans, Vermont—Charles Dow Clark drew his first breath in the crisp northern air. Over the next six decades he stepped before cameras and footlights, etching himself into early talkies as the jittery millionaire of The Bat Whispers (1930), the wily juror in Ladies of the Jury (1932), and the silver-tongued swindler of The Confidence Man (1924). Off-screen he shared his life with Winifred F. Buckley, the woman who became his wife. The curtain fell for the last time on March 26, 1959, in New York City, the same streets that once applauded him now echoing his final bow.
